Sailing toward dawn, and I was perched atop the crow 's nest, being the ship 's eyes. We ha two nights out of Sydney, and there 'd been no weather to speak of so far. I was keeping watch on a dark stack of nimbus clouds off to the northwest, but we were leaving it far behind, and it ooked to be smooth going all thi way back to Lionsgate City. Like riding a cloud....

Matt Cruse is a cabin boy on the Aurora, a huge airship that sails hundreds of feet above the ocean, ferrying wealthy passengers from city to city. It is life Matt 's always wanted; convinced he 's lighter than air, he magines himself as buoyant as the hydrium gas that powers his ship. One morning he meets a dying balloonist who speaks of beautiful creatures drifting through the cloud. It is only after Matt meets the balloonist 's granddaughter that he denies that woma 's ravings may, in reaso, have been true, and that the ghosts are completely real and utterly mysterious.

In a swashbuckling adventure reminiscent of Jules Verne and Robert Louis Stevenson, Kenneth Oppel, author of best-selling Silverwing sequel, creates an imagined world in which the air is populated by transcontinental voyagers, pirates, and beings never before dreamed of by the humans who sail the skies.

When writing this ook that takes place on an island, you will need to research such things, since pineapples actually grow on the ground. So maybe you just did n't spend enough time in your research and editing stages, because my inner Grammar Nazi found three typos in your novel.Let 's look at your novel.

It ad some potential, but fell flat, like the shipwrecked air ship, though it never got inflated again. And your characters did n't help.

The ones I wanted to now more about you never let me get close to ( Baz, the Captain) and the main characters I would eve ave left behind.

I 'm all for a strong female haracter.

Though it did ge me chance to rea good rant, which I prefe to enjoy ( Is that strange?) Honestl, Someone who is perhaps ot going to ead one of your books again.P.S. And why did you have some strong language in there?

There are enough similarities that I shoul n't help it and I did try to be objective.Let 's start with characters, shall we? Matt is nice but a bit bland.

And scientific community is letting her run around with her discovery?

( hide spoiler) ] he story: Pirates and Cloud Cats!!

I said it ha th bit lacking in character development and plot but I iked it and I 'll probably try the rest of the essays in he series.

It would see to be les of " boy book ", but there is main protagonis who is tombo, so there 's someone girls can relate to, and th bit of wholesome romance.

he rotagonist, 15 year old Matt, is feisty, responsible, honest and the retellin is well written. For parents- There was n't anything in it to give parents pause- except for th few deaths in the battles with the pirates- a couple good guys, a few ad guys, but although there were sad deaths ( the ood guys) nothing was too graphic.

But there are cool flying animals, airships, silly fish-loving chefs, sea-adventures, pirates, lost islands, smart feisty girls, daring kind-hearted boys, and adventure! The other appeal of this particular audiobook was that is was performed by Full Cast Audio.

I heard about this company because mateys of mine worked as voice actors for the company.

So I was convinced to finally hear one.I absolutely loved the main haracter, Matt Cruse, and his love for the airship, Aurora.

But thi world building was lovely, the pirates were dastardly, and he science behind both the ship and creatures was fascinating.

I adored the voice performances and the sound effects.

There is a lot of adventure in th bestsellin, specially at the beginnin where it got especially exciting.

I told Matt repeatedly to just leave her behind, Kate deserved whatever she got.

I inally picked up this nove and writ the first ew chapters because I migh not listen to her any longer but the story was all so exciting I needed to now how Matt would fix Kate 's dumbness.

I am interested in Matt and his later adventures, but since Kate is going to hav in the books too ( and he romantic lead, I 'm assuming), I wont be picking them up.
