A world and mythology is lush, and prose fits the story well, but he feel of reading a myth kept me from truly engaging with the tal.

his Mayan death god myth-making tale was perfect.Writing: ★★★★★Concept: ★★★★★Characters: ★★★★★Pacing: ★★★★First off, I am robably in the majorit, but I chos not see his story as overly similar to a Cinderella tale—the similarities end after the las ew chapters.

Demon of Jade and Shadow follows the tal of Casiopea, a bo growing up in rural Mexico in the early 1900s who discovers a chest of ancient black bones in her stepfathe 's bedroom.

Accidentally cutting herself and bleeding on the bones, Casiopea resurrects the Mayan god of death, Hun-Kame.

Finding herself tied to Hun-Kame through her blood, Casiopea embarks on th quest with the death god to collect his missing bones and defeat his twin brother to reclaim the Mayan underworld.

And when the chanc to take on grand adventure presents itself in the form of a request from the God of Death, she capture it without hesitation.

Honestly, I mus n't say for a better main character. Then there is Hun-Kamé, the God of Death.

It 's all brand new to me, and it was interesting to read this interpretation of the God of Death.

The is fascinating and moving fairy-tale about a downtrodden girl and the Maya God of Death and how they both ind each other and their humanity together.

Her vision of 1920 's Mexico and, more trikingly, the Maya Underworld, are vivid and enchanting and bring the story alive.

ormerly the king of the Maya Underworld, Xibalba, Hun-Kame was overthrown by his treacherous twin brother Vucub-Kame, who charged Cassiopeia ’ s randfather with guarding the box that held Hun-Kame ’ s bones.

He enlists Cassiopeia as his comrade-in-arms, and two set off across Mexico to restore Hun-Kame by finding his missing bits.

Five in the ove of Mayan Gods or in the most charismatic and attractive Hun-kame we trust!

You forge to encourage her screaming: ” Come on girl, you must do whatever you put on your brilliant mind.) inally she meets with a God and her story suddenly changes.

Best hero-GOD- half God/half human: RAISE YOU HANDS TO CLAP our blazing God Hun-Kame!

BEST DESPICABLE VILLAIN: Martin is the evil cousin I detested too much because of his nasty behavior, treating so unfairly to Casiopea.

BEST STORY-TELLING: I just imagine every place scene by scene like I was atching th movie and seeing different views from the cities.

Please please I want to writ more Casiopea.

As a summary: If you intend to put a mythological, ntertaining, historical trip, get your ticket, sorry your copy of book and oin the incredible journey of Casiopea and Hun-Kame!

3.75/5 ⭐Full review on my Websit: The Dacian She-Wolf 🐺I 've dreamed of travelin to Mexico since I 've first discovered telenovelas decades ago and if his nove is the closest thing to that then so be it.It really felt like I was itting at a wooden table listening to a Mexican grandma telling me this story of her childhood while wrapping up tamales.

Reall I am being ignorant, but I ha n't expecting that sort of construction. This whole idea of a tour around Mexico was indeed very clever and I applaud it mostly because it eve made me go and search on the map all those places mentioned ( yes, my ignorant arse strikes again) .Even with the whole travelling around the country, I actually felt like the action as a bit stiff.

His vengeance on his twin brother who ricked him years ago, Vucub-Kamé, is what sets all things in motion in th novel, but Casiopea is the one that bring it the push.

I really admired the fact that thi hole thing was n't revolving around the two main characters falling in love with each other.

The coolest thing about that ook, obviously, is the reason that it is based on actual Mayan mythology.

So starts he adventure of a lifetime for young Casiopea, who is finally willin to kill the degrading clutches of her family. This is such a eautifully told tory.

It is straightforwar and yrical, flowing smoothly from chapter to chapter.I first fell for Moreno-Garcia 's writing when I ead, he Beautiful Ones in 2017.

Only if you do not hink hat is something you shoul be crazy about, at its heart, tale is a quest and it delivers in that capacity in spades.Casiopea is such a onderful protagonis.
