I Am Not A Serial Killer

John Wayne Cleaver is dangerous, and he hates it.

He ’ s spent his life doing his best not to live up to his potential.
He ’ s infatuated with serial killers, but really doesn ’ t need to become one. So for his own sake, and the safety of those around him, he lives by rigid rules he ’ s written for himself, practicing normal life as if it ere a private religion that could ave him from damnation.

Dead bodies are normal to John. He likes them, though. They don ’ t demand or expect the empathy he ’ s eager to offer. Perhaps that ’ s what ives him the objectivity to recognize that there ’ s something different about the body the police have just found behind the Wash-n-Dry Laundromat -- -and to appreciate what that difference means.

Still, for last time, John has to subdu a danger outside himself, a threat he can ’ t control, a menace to everything and everyone he would love, if only he ould.

I hink my husban is a serial killer waiting to be unleashed on the world.I had neve heard of his ovel but ran across a Powell ’ s Books author reading late last month by Dan Wells.

no one but the Author could compete with her, naming less than five, 2 of which Wells had used as examples……please send the police after her FIRST if i ever drop off the radar ( after she reads this, my stats will weigh against me.) ..

Dan Wells scribbled his John Hancock into the cover and i ent home ..

His friend is Sam Cleaver, making him the Son of Sam. His last name is a tool for cutting meat.Interestingly enough, the town John lives in has a new killer hanging around, killing people and leaving their bodies lying about with parts missing.

Wells did a great job breaking down the essenc of th iller and really leaves you mentally cheering for the 15 year old sociopath that is the main haracter.

classically misunderstood. The book is portioned well, focusing on John ’ s internal struggle as much as his obsessions with finding and stopping the local killer. It is a little gory in some spots, but neve painfull so ..

ok, well, just assume that i am desensitized .. One of my avorite theme of John Cleaver is that he has already identified character traits of his that make him fear for his future.

He has created series of rules that will help himself suppress these character traits.

Ever since Hannibal Lector flirted with Clarice Starling by telling her about his favorite ecipes, it seems like every other thriller features some kind of deranged but brilliant serial killer.

Jeff Lindsay ’ s Dexter series put a unique twist on the interpretation of the serial rapis.

Still, John mus find out that this killer is worse than even his deranged mind can imagine. The first third of his book had me completely intrigued.

I njoyed thi dark umor and thought the narrator ( John Allen Nelson) did a fantastic job of making the whole thing to life.I can see there are always a few books in his series, but I eel as though if I sai to stop here, I would.

his bsession is the esult of he himself having many of the characteristics and characteristics of a serial rapis and struggling desperately against his inner “ urges. ” John has decided that by learning how these people act and what drives them, he mus determine what actions to avoid in order to hid from killing anyone ... Sounds pretty sensible to me, but onc again I 've never killed anyone .... well, except for food and that does n't count.

They both “ work ” around dead bodies ( Dexter is a blood-splatter analyst while John ’ s family re the local morticians) and they both struggle with “ their inner monster. ” Regardless, I as reall loving he book as John ( like Dexter) is a quirky haracter and the descriptions of his daily routines and his struggle against his inner monster were very well done.

In addition to learning about John, the central plot of this book involves the discovery that an actual serial killer is on the loose in John ’ s small town.

Of course, John is fascinated and begins trying to figure out who thi murdere is and how he is selecting his victims.

...... Okay, let 's just pause and take a moment to appreciate how we got to that point because the road is gon na get pretty rough ahead .... Ready to continue .... Okay, so up to a point, everything about this novel was good.

Apparently, IT did happen and when IT happened, IT kinda ruined it for me…Oh well shIT happens!!! P.S. For those of you who have equested to know what IT is, here you go ... ( view spoiler) [ The serial killer loose in the villag turns out to e a DEMON which comes completely out of left field since the nove was reading like a straight YA crime thriller ( hide spoiler) ] [ " br " ]> [ " br " ]> [ " br " ]> [ " br " ]> [ " br " ]> [ " br " ]> [ " br " ]> [ " br " ]> [ " br " ]> [ " br " ]> [ " br " ]> [ " br " ]> [ " br " ]> [ " br " ]> [ " br " ]> [ " br " ]> [ " br " ]> [ " br " ]> [ " br " ]> [ " br " ]> [ " br " ]> [ " br " ]> [ " br " ]> [ " br " ]> [ " br " ]> [ " br " ]> [ " br " ]> [ " br " ]> [ " br " ]>

I hoped to writ his nove because of my ascination with serial killers and the intriguing slant in the main villai 's relationship with himself. While reading, I was turne off by Wells' writing style.
