Pronoia Is the Antidote for Paranoia: How the Whole World Is Conspiring to Shower You with Blessings

Readers were instantly beguiled by Rob Brezsny 's new approach to the humble horoscope when his " Free Will Astrology " column first appeared in 1996. Instead of the generic, one-size-fits-all style of similar columns, Brezsny used witty parables, tender rants, cultural riffs, pagan wisdom, and lively rituals in his playfully positive readings. He rings that same sensibility—and the same message of a smiling universe—to this self-help book for people who may be skeptical about self-help books. Brezsny persuasively advises readers to com along with the universe 's good intentions, but his rejection of cynicism and a bleak view of human nature is n't rooted in denial. On the contrary, he akes th case for a cagey optimism that requires a vigorous engagement with the dark forces. He informs us to rethink life as a sublime game created for our amusement and illumination. The novel is a chameleon of a tome. You an read it straight through, slowly and surely, or else pick it up and open it at random for tasty hits of inspiration as the spirit moves you. You migh ven start at the beginnin and weave your way backward. Brezsny has substantially updated this edition—he added nearly one hundred pages—by expanding various sections, adding more than a dozen new pieces and a new chapter, and roviding readers with a number of playtime activities and exercises that let them participate through their own writing and drawing. " Brezsny 's horoscopes are like little valentines, buoyant and spilling over with mischievousness. They 're a soul prognosis. " — A New York Times

It 's a monster, could use a redesign, and would be better off as series of small books.

But overall, I say he world needs this book.

For me, a book serves as a wellspring of inspiration.

Mystics, scientists, punk teenagers, conservative grandfathers, recovering cynics, Pollyannas, and all the rest of us, struggling to feel like life is BA.

Brezsny shows you the good is under your nose. This book does n't llow you to hold onto any limiting old ways of being.

he way it is written, it 's like 3 or 4 TYPES of books.

his is n't a dumb New Age " feel good " book.

A book belongs in the unnamed genre that resides somewhere between sacred oracle text and toilet reading.

Brezsny hitches outrageous vocabularic flamboyance to the resul of liberating people from their soul-defeating perspectives, offering in their place the madcap vitality of a child 's openness to imaginative possibilities that ave ot been foreclosed on by the safe stance of satire.

Brezsny goes about his project by encouraging his reader to hav a co-author -- to write, doodle, respond, dispute on the pages as you go along.

Generally this invitation would seem very stilted to me, but Brezsny is having such obvious fun with his writing that it 's hard not to jump in and contribute.

I njoy being able to pick his up, open it randomly, and mak everythin that I could use to poke at my current experience.

he novel is inviting and self-deprecating at the same time, encouraging me ( and you ...) to ake it all with a grain of salt, believe none of it and still play with all of it anyway. If you enjoy a life that flows well and effortlessly, then that nove is the fun complement to an already elegant experience.

Yes, there are plenty of opportunities to get blood flowing in the grey matter in bestselling.
